Day 30- What do you think happens to the characters after the series ended for good?
Ed and Winry got married and had lots of beautiful babies.
Al and Mei got married and had lots of beautiful babies.
Roy and Riza got married and had lots of beautiful babies.
Ling and Lan Fan got married and had lots of beautiful babies.
Olivier and Izumi became BFFs, then joined forces to take over the world.
Everyone else did whatever.
…
Seriously though, Roy and Riza probably continued towards their plans while Lan Fan remained Ling’s loyal servant. I’d like to think they had happy endings, but there is a lot against them, particularly Roy and Riza.
What we saw in those photos at the end probably took place only a few years after the story was over, so who knows what happened after that?
Wow, that’s kind of a dark way to end this, isn’t it?
Day 29- What did you think of the series’ end?
I haven’t yet seen the ending to the first anime, so no comment there.
The ending of the manga/Brotherhood was so sweet and beautiful. I swear, I almost cried. From Ed having to give up his Alchemy, to the brothers going their separate ways to study Alchemy, to Ed’s dorky as hell proposal to Winry, it’s all so poignant and I love it so.
Another thing that was pointed out on TVTropes is that the final shot of the manga is Ed about to leave on a train. One of the very first shots of the manga, all the way back in chapter 1, is Ed (and Al) arriving on a train. That just makes it a lot sadder, but in a good way if that makes sense.
More on this tomorrow.
Day 28- You know someone is an FMA fan when…
“Humankind cannot gain anything without first sacrificing something in return…”
If they can finish that sentence, they are an FMA fan.
Day 27- What attracted you to the series overall?
The story, mostly.
That’s what keep me going with a series most of the time. When I first read the back cover of volume 1 in High School, it only looked mildly interesting to me. Not boring or anything, just not uber exciting. When I finally read it, the wonderful plotline is what kept me going, and eventually it was the characters as well. I’d grown to love these characters and wanted to see them find their peace and happiness in the final chapter. I remember the horrible wait between chapters 104 and 105, and the hollow feeling I had after reading the final chapter and realizing it was all over.
It’s a beautiful series that I’m so glad I gave a second chance.
Day 26- Has the series impacted your life in any way? How?
Well, it was the first long manga series I completed since the frequently mentioned DBZ, so there’s that.
Other than that, it showed me what a really good, well crafted story looks like and I aspire to write like that someday.
Day 25- Roy Mustang: What do you think?
I like him. He’s a really good, fleshed out character with an interesting motivation.
Just for the record, I’m speaking about the Brotherhood/manga version of the character, because I feel he was a bit under-developed in the first anime, at least by comparison.
One of the best scenes is his confrontation of Envy, and not just because of the truly awesome, DBZ-worthy No Holds Bar Beatdown he delivers. The fact that it ends with all his morals put on the line and that he sticks to them in spite of the enormous temptation to just smush Envy’s slimy worm face into the ground is great and a true testament to his character.
In addition, I love his relationship with Hawkeye, which isn’t the healthiest to ever exist, but it’s pretty clear there can be no one else for him but her and vice versa. I find it kind of sweet in a tragic way, because they both have such horrible things in their pasts that will follow them for the rest of their lives.
He’s not my favorite character, but he is a good one.
Day 24- Do you have any opinions of the OST? What are they?
Both series’ have great soundtracks. I remember more of FMA03’s at the moment, and there was this one piece of music I really loved that I could never find the name of. I went on youtube and found all these pieces of the score that had been posted and listened through them and never found that song and it’s so annoying. ><
I also really liked that drum beat that played during the more comedic moments.
Day 23- Do you have a favorite Elric brother? Why or why not?
Ed would be my favorite.
I just love the kind of character he is. He acts tough, but you know he’s got a soft side to him, even if not many people can see it.
He’d be considered a Jerk With A Heart Of Gold type, and I love those characters in general. I find them funny and also really sweet once the ‘Heart of Gold’ comes into play. If anything proves it about Ed, it’s his actions right after his final fight with Pride.
Speaking of which: ‘I know EXACTLY how short people fight!’
I love that line. I can’t even articulate why, I just do.
Day 22- Your opinion on the anime: raw or dubbed?
Dubbed.
I take all my anime dubbed, unless one isn’t available. Then I’ll watch the sub since I have no other option.
I have seen the sub too, though, and it’s fine too. I have no major issues with it.
Day 21- Do you think Maes Hughes is an adorable and loving father or just creepy?
What are you, crazy?
He’s an adorable, loving father! Just look at all those pictures he carries around and the way he smothers Elysia with love whenever he sees her and draws his gun on the little three year old boys who try to play with her.
…okay, yeah, that last ones a little out there. I’m still right, though!
